A couple was killed and their 14-year-old daughter injured when a speeding pickup van struck them in the Matuail area of Dhaka this morning. The victims have been identified as Runa Akter and her husband, Abdul Jabbar, according to Mahmudul Hasan Irfan, a sub-inspector at Jatrabari Police Station. Their daughter, Jui Akter, was injured in the incident and is receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). The accident occurred around 7:00 am in front of Saddam Market as the family was on their way to the hospital to visit a relative who had passed away the previous night, as stated by Jui's elder sister, Jannatul Ferdous. The family, originally from Islampur upazila in Jamalpur district and currently living in Demra, was crossing the road when the pickup van hit them. Runa died instantly, and Abdul Jabbar later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. The driver fled the scene, but the police have seized the vehicle.
